*Internship period: 4 Jan 2027 – 30 June 2027. This period may be adjusted depending on business circumstances.

Would you like to be part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Internship Program, helping us build and transform the infrastructure behind AWS?
Are you curious about how live data centers are upgraded without switching off the servers that millions of customers depend on?
Do you want to learn how large-scale construction and engineering projects are planned, coordinated, and delivered inside mission-critical facilities?

Cloud computing and generative AI are changing how the world uses technology. Since 2006, AWS has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. And today, AWS is at the forefront of the generative AI revolution, powering the models and applications that are transforming every industry. On this AWS Internship Program you will take on real projects, build skills you can use from day one, and be encouraged to build and innovate. You will be a supported member of our internship community, with access to mentoring, coaching and other learning opportunities.

The Critical Projects Implementation (CPI) team, part of Data Center Capacity Delivery (DCCD) team, is a project management and execution team that manages construction activity within operational data center spaces. We are tasked with critical infrastructure improvement projects to optimize utilization of space, power, and cooling within live data centers. These activities are outside of the scope of standard construction delivery and regular preventative maintenance tasks. Our Project Managers come from engineering, construction, and operations backgrounds. Together we scope, plan, and deliver capital improvement and capacity-enabling projects so that AWS can continue to grow while keeping existing customer workloads available.

Key job responsibilities
As a Critical Project Engineer (Intern), you will work alongside our Project Managers on live data center upgrade and retrofit projects. You will learn how a project moves from an initial scope of work to a completed installation: how requirements are gathered, schedules built, risks identified, stakeholders aligned, and work safely executed inside an operating facility. This role is designed to develop tertiary students in technical project management skills. The expected career path includes development from Project Associate through to Project Engineer and Project Manager.

Your work will include:
– Assisting with project scoping — reviewing design documents, site surveys, and technical drawings to define what needs to be built or upgraded
– Helping build and maintain project schedules, tracking milestones and flagging risks or delays
– Supporting cost estimation and budget tracking, including vendor quotes and purchase orders
– Coordinating with internal stakeholders (operations, engineering, controls, commissioning) and external contractors to keep work on track
– Maintaining project documentation — method of procedures, inspection records, safety permits, as-built drawings, and lessons learned
– Helping prepare project status reports, dashboards, and stakeholder communications
– Supporting process-improvement or tooling that improve team productivity
