The Senior Project Manager is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of complex IT projects that align with the organization’s strategic goals.  The role requires full ownership of the project lifecycle, from initiation through to successful completion, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope and on budget.

 

Stakeholder Management

A key focus of the position is to independently engage, influence and build strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across business units, IT and external vendors. The Senior Project Manager must act as a trusted advisor, effectively managing expectations and facilitating clear communication to foster collaboration and secure alignment on project objectives and deliverables.

 

Team Leadership and Development

The Senior Project Manager leads and motivates a high-performing, cross-functional team by establishing clear goals, providing mentorship, and promoting a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

 

Project Governance and Risk Management

This role requires rigorous project governance to ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.  The Senior Project Manager proactively identifies, assesses and mitigates risks, making informed decisions that minimize project disruptions and safeguard business outcomes.

 

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

The Senior Project Manager continually evaluates project delivery methodologies, tools and processes to identify opportunities for improvement.  He/she champions innovation by adopting best practices and encouraging creative problem-solving that enhances efficiency, quality and value delivered to the business.

 

Financial Acumen and Budget Control

The Senior Project Manager exercises strong financial oversight by forecasting costs, monitoring expenditures and implementing corrective actions to keep projects within budget.

 

Change Management

The Senior Project Manager drives effective change management strategies to ensure smooth adoption of new technologies and processes

  1. Project Governance & Compliance. Enforce robust project governance frameworks to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Monitor project performance through regular audits, risk assessments and quality reviews to maintain high standards throughout the project lifecycle.

KPI: 100% of project comply with relevant governance and regulatory requirements. 

  1. Risk Management & Issue Resolution: Proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle. Facilitate timely escalation and resolution of issues to minimize impact on project deliverables and timelines

KPI: 100% of project risks have documented mitigation plans.  No projects delayed due to unresolved risks or issues

  1. Cross functional Collaboration.  Drive effective collaborative between IT, business units and external vendors to ensure alignment of project goals, deliverables and timelines.  Facilitate clear communication and conflict resolution across diverse teams.

KPI: Conduct monthly alignment meetings with 90% attendance from key stakeholders with project dependencies resolved on or ahead of schedule.

  1. Budget Management & Financial Control. Own the end-to-end financial management of projects, ensuring strict adherence to budgets and financial governance policies.  Monitor expenditure, forecast costs and implement corrective actions to avoid budget overruns.

KPI.  Deliver projects within approved budget. 

  1. Contract Management & Vendor Management.  Lead contract negotiations and manage vendor relationships to secure favorable terms, mitigate risks and ensure contractual obligations are met.  Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to review agreements and ensure compliance with corporate policies

KPI. 100% of contracts reviewed and approved by legal before execution. Zero major contractual disputes or penalties through the project lifecycle.

  1. Negotiation & Business Acumen.  Utilise negotiation skills to balance competing interests of stakeholders, vendors and internal teams to reach mutually beneficial agreements. Facilitate transparent and fair negotiations to maintain strong, long-term partnerships.

KPI. Achieve consensus on project scope, timelines and budgets without escalation.

 

Skills For Success

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, business or a related field
  • At least 7 years of experience managing complex IT projects in a corporate or group environment
  • Strong understanding of project management frameworks (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid). 
  • High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Creative thinking and innovation mindset.
