As a key member of the OCBC Legal team, you will play a critical role in navigating the complex and ever-evolving legal landscape applicable to the retail banking business. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of legal issues, from advising on transactions to managing disputes. How you succeed

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker and an understanding and knowledge of the retail banking industry and its regulatory framework would be an added advantage. You will need to be able to provide practical and effective legal advice to the business, while also managing risks and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Your ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and communicate complex legal issues in a clear and concise manner will be essential.

What you do

(a) Provide legal support to the Bank’s consumer banking business, which includes, the following businesses:

  • wealth management business,

  • lifestyle financing business (this includes unsecured lending, card products, digital banking proposition)

  • merchant acquisition/payment processing business (this includes reviewing of merchant agreements, agreements with card associations etc)

  • ecosystem business (this includes helping the business unit to implement value added lifestyle services for retail customers);

  • secured lending business (this includes housing loans and other premium financing activities);

  • digital and digital transformation businesses (this includes the bank’s digital banking platforms and digital initiatives);

(b) providing legal support to the Bank’s customer experience and branding and communication business units (this includes business units involved with design, research, analytics etc).

(c) providing legal support to the Bank’s service channels (this includes providing assistance with customer disputes and complaints);

(d) providing legal support to other consumer banking related matters which includes:

(i) ensuring adherence by business units with procedures of the Bank’s documentation standards and to maintain/update documentation templates, procedures and policies;

(ii) conduct training/seminars on legal issues and product documentation.

Who you are

  • Qualified lawyer with 4 – 6 years PQE. Some experience in litigation although this is not a prerequisite.

  • Some experience or interest in learning about fintech and digital banking solutions.  

  • Fluent in written and conversational English.

  • Be a team player and yet able to work independently.

  • Be self-motivated, collaborative and adaptable.

  • Have excellent people management and communication skills.

  • Prior experience in consumer banking or corporate/commercial related matters and with good working knowledge of legal issues relating to or arising out of such matters.

  • Be able to provide quality, timely and practical legal advice to the business units.
