We are looking for a submarine Technical Program Manager with proven experience, strong sense of ownership and passion for defining and driving large cross-functional programs in the infrastructure and networking space. The candidate should be self-driven, have the ability to learn quickly and influence decision-making across organizations. In this position, you will work closely with various Amazon business units to gather, refine and drive program goals to deliver submarine cable projects. You will have the opportunity to implement new processes and procedures driving continuous improvement while interacting with a broad range of stakeholders across Amazon.

Key job responsibilities
In this position, the candidate will work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to deliver submarine cable projects across the globe. The candidate should be able to represent and lead for Amazon in deployment and operational meetings, coordinate complex projects spanning a number of geographies and deliver the project to our high standards. They should have a deep knowledge of how to construct fiber based networks that span long haul fiber and colocation including the selection and deployment of optical equipment interfacing with submarine cables. Finally, the candidate should be able to ensure that the delivered network is handed over with a suitably validated operational model appropriate to the specific deployment and location.

Specific knowledge of submarine cable deployment and operation is sought.

A day in the life
Our projects are multi year in duration, requiring careful planning, disciplined execution and with a growing program, constant invention and simplification. We work with internal and external stakeholders and partners, driving projects to meet our goals and timelines. We ensure that the delivery of the projects meet our high standards and specifications. When faced with an issue or delay, we invent to solve for the roadblock alerting our customers along the way. Communications are crisp, timely and always advise a path forward. We learn from each other, ensuring global consistency.

About the team
The Subsea Backbone team is responsible for all aspects of submarine network deployment, operation, upgrades and management within AWS. We own the technology roadmap and standards for submarine cable, optical fiber, installation methods, procurement of the optical equipment, RSPC and associated operational models and security postures. We define the contractual framework for all required elements adding capacity that supports the AWS Backbone Network for our customers. The team works closely with the Regional Business Development teams to deliver submarine capacity to a global standard, enabling economic and scalable consistency for all our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
– 5+ year Program management experience, preferably on a global scale.
– Experience in delivering large cross functional international programs and driving milestones.
– Experience driving and leading authoring project playbooks, building schedules and compiling financial records and forecasts.
– Knowledge of optical transport systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Knowledge and experience with submarine cable systems.
– Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team.
– Strong organizational, multitasking, prioritization abilities, and an excellent attention to detail.
– Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, manage, and prioritize multiple projects.
