JOB SUMMARY

  • Standard Chartered (SCB) is a leading International Wealth Manager and aspires to provide highly differentiated wealth advisory and solutions across the wealth continuum. The Bank has set up a focused Wealth Academy in collaboration with INSEAD, one of the world’s leading and largest graduate business schools, with the ambition to provide best-in-class training to equip its Affluent Banking relationship teams to become the best advisors to our clients. The Academy is a part of the Affluent Segment function and is pivotal to the Bank’s ambition and business success. The Academy co-curates content with the best of industry practitioners and INSEAD academicians and delivers the programme in a highly engaging, case study-led format across Bank’s wealth hubs and top markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, UAE, China, India, Taiwan and Malaysia.
  • The role requires a blend of strategic thinking, good functional knowledge in wealth solutions and advisory practices, with an understanding of Affluent distribution & sales practices and practical implementation skills to help scale up the Wealth Academy  
  • This role is responsible for working within the Global Affluent Segments and involves partnering with the in-market WRB Affluent & Private Bank Segments, Product Management, Marketing and Frontline Affluent distribution teams, besides respective functional stakeholders (including People Capability and HR) and external providers, to build the right training curriculum and delivery mechanism that drives the upskilling of WRB’s Affluent Relationship Managers and Specialists to deliver on Bank’s Affluent segments and wealth business-led growth strategy.

  • Be the Business Accountable Lead to continually align and drive Academy programmes to the affluent business objectives and KPIs 
  • Lead the execution for the Academy programmes, in collaboration with People Capabilities & HR
  • Continue with the expansion of the Senior and Mid-tier RM programme tracks, with continual content and delivery model enhancements, including digital tools and cases
  • Introduction of the Gold Program design, with an integrated digital and instructor-led approach, for Junior Relationship Managers
  • Ensure the New RM onboarding programmes are aligned with the Bank’s Affluent focused strategy
  • Introduce dedicated solutions and advisory programmes that suit the specialised needs of Private Bank Relationship Managers
  • Introduce specialised modules, aligned to business needs and KPIs, for RMs and Specialists such as IA programmes, Team Leader programmes, etc.

  • Identify future competencies needed to deliver on Affluent business strategic plans
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to co-curate, co-improve and continue to co-deliver 
  • Manage and coordinate the external vendor relationships such as INSEAD, Fitch Learning, Intuition, and others to ensure alignment on objectives, costs and outcomes
  • Develop robust infrastructure to manage the Academy assets – internal portal, curriculum & content, case study library, assessment repository and dashboards, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

  • Ensure Academy mission and strategic roadmap is aligned to Affluent business’ objectives and KPIs
  • Align training programmes for each of the Academy tracks to be consistent, yet nuanced to suit markets’ objectives and ensure it delivers to their business requirements. 
  • Ensure and put in place KPIs that measure training effectiveness

Business

  • Champion a positive wealth engagement experience for clients, by embedding the advisory-led learning (that is being delivered by the SC-INSEAD Wealth Academy) into the day-to-day client engagement and reviews rhythm
  • Working closely with Affluent Segments CVP and Private Bank Segment Heads, develop a training model that is suited for the more specialised needs of Private Bank
  • Support the execution of initiatives that elevate the role of Academy (and external brand partnerships, such as INSEAD) in going beyond the learning objectives (e.g., research, client programs, etc.)
  • Promote the academy within the Bank to raise profile, encourage participation and engagement, and raise the profile externally to establish it as a key Client Value Proposition driver to attract Affluent clients to the Bank 
  • Create relatable, compelling success stories which can be leveraged by Early Careers to attract top frontline relationship managers in the market
     

Processes
Responsibilities:

  • Programme design and curriculum development: 
  • Enhance existing Priority Banking and Priority Private programme tracks and modules to pivot to Bank’s corporate plan imperatives, basis extensive engagement with market leads, functional stakeholders, and participants’ themselves
  • Build new curriculum for Junior RM track, and put in place an accelerated, immersive participations-based delivery model
  • Create a new pathway / set of programmes for Private Bank and align on the mechanics of delivery, including socialisation with regional and market heads
  • Ensure development of a core subject matter expert (SME) stakeholder pool (Group and markets) to continually improve and co-deliver programmes and bring in local market context into the programme delivery
  • Drive scale-up of the training assets such as case studies, role model videos that can help make the programme delivery engaging and effective
  • Introduce and experiment with new age training methods, and explore innovative training solutions such as gamification, AI-driven interventions, and interactive platforms
  • Ensure the curriculum is adaptable to different learning styles (instructor-led simulations, workshops, e-learning, existing on the job trainings, etc.)  
  • The role holder is also expected to support the management of the budget allocations to the various training programmes and initiatives, drive prioritisation and alignment amongst stakeholders, and continually evaluate for cost-effective delivery and put in place robust tracking MIS
  • Ensure adherence to ongoing control monitoring and minimum control requirements as set out in applicable policies & procedures (including HR, Finance and Accruals, Learning Operations) to ensure that if a key-control activity stops working, or operates outside its normal operating conditions, it will be quickly detected in the ordinary course of line management

People & Talent

  • Provide insightful business pointers to the leadership as part a member of the Global Affluent Segments team
  • Leverage on Academy people resources effectively, internal squad and external vendors – tasks and allocations; trainer fitment & feedback, proa-actively bringing in SMEs and guidance / interventions as needed

  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values, embedding a high level of team engagement
  • Strike effective partnership with market stakeholders (such as segment, distribution, wealth and marketing teams) and collaboratively build programmes and delivery schedules 
  • Stay connected with emerging trends in wealth industry and build a peer group network in the broader market, including Wealth Management institutes, thought leaders and industry KOLs

Risk Management

  • Maintain records and certification tracking, as required regulatorily as also to ensure fair treatment of all participants
  • Manage Budgets and follow expense approvals, vendor payouts and accruals process processes as per the applicable signing authority, delegation matrix and financial accounting policies

Governance

  • Ensure awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
  • Deliver effective governance in compliance with applicable internal policies esp. with regards to contracts, vendor and partner management etc.
  • Develop a strong conduct, risk and control environment to minimise operational loss and audit failures

  • Help in embedding Business Change Management and establish connection with Business Success
  • Set-up a robust dashboard to track participation and completion rates across programmes / tracks
  • Leverage on Business MIS and Analytics teams to draw correlation to training effectiveness and business performance 
  • Create success stories and case studies to showcase impact – internal and external
  • Manage stakeholder engagement (global and local) at all seniority levels to enhance the experience and quality of engagement

Our Ideal Candidate
Education     

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in management. Professional qualification in data / wealth management areas such as investments, insurance, etc. will be an added advantage
  • 6+ years’ experience in banking / financial services, Including products, segments, data analytics fields
  • Some experience in Affluent Segment Management and / or Wealth Management (products and sales) will be desirable
  • Experience in working with multiple markets and / or multi-market projects 
  • Good understanding of client and wealth insights, and industry practices 
  • Proven ability to work with diverse teams globally and effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Project and Programme Management skills to monitor specific projects and take ownership of issues and tasks
  • Ability to work independently to strict timeframes, focused, organised and results-oriented
  • Good presentation, time management, negotiation and influencing skills 
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, while proficiency in data scripts & programming will be an added asset

For candidates to be considered as Band 5/Director. The ideal candidate would need to have a good understanding of the Affluent & Wealth Solutions Eco System & a demonstrated ability to lead and function independently
