JOB SUMMARY
- Member of the Front Line Monitoring (FLM) team with cross asset class BAU monitoring focus. Responsibilities will include monitoring of controls and processes as well as post trade analysis of client related transactions. The FLM team monitor the Bank’s response to its best execution obligations and treating clients fairly. The FLM team enable the business to generate revenue in a compliant manner by (i) alerting, (ii) advising and (iii) assisting supervisors in relation to their best execution responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy
- Liaise between 1st and 2nd line to ensure delivery of best execution outcomes to clients and identify potential issues or areas of concern in the management of client flow. Raise queries and escalate via appropriate pre-determined channels where appropriate.
- Drive our objectives in helping Markets business to achieve the highest standards.
- Continually challenge existing controls, look to increase the scope and quality of monitoring of the first line of defence for the business
- Highlight and document to Markets management/CFCC teams where systemic/systematic issues become evident that may affect our ability to discharge our best execution obligations
- Continually evaluate risks and identify gaps in our processes– prioritising high risk items
- Actively seek to ensure that the business in general upholds it’s treating customers fairly agenda for Markets.
- Continue to stay up to date with internal/external policies and principle-based guidelines.
Business
- Awareness and understanding of the wider Markets business, economic and market environment in which the Group Operates.
- Provide robust challenge to senior management and all relevant business stakeholders where activities are outside risk tolerance/ appetite, escalating as necessary, until appropriate oversight and ownership is achieved including actions and plans to address any remedial action needed to come back within risk tolerance/ appetite. Work effectively to achieve target as performance document.
Processes
- Continue to drive efficiency and identify potential gaps in the BAU monitoring process as the field of view expands.
- Use product/trading knowledge to identify activity that may not align with our obligations to our clients. Deep dive into specific orders and reconstruct events considering a large number of trading factors effecting client outcome
- Identify and isolate particular orders from large daily volumes by using excel to analyse data imported from internal order management systems and conduct detailed analysis
- Monitor how we manage each order type, (stop loss, take profit, at best, limit, Reference time etc) and apply our policies and guidance in the monitoring process
- Apply this to a variety of products, including (but not exhaustive) FX spot, Fwd outrights, FX swaps, NDF, liquidity swaps and FXO etc.
- Be able to assess liquidity factors effecting outcomes and accurately reduce the number of false positives resulting in escalation
- Be proficient in using trade processing systems, order management and recording systems
- Understand market data, which external liquidity providers to access for a given product/asset class and be able to retrieve historic price action using tools available, (Reuters Eikon, Bloomberg, internal sources)
- Construct daily reports detailing workings on each order requiring additional monitoring. Report to include Tic data, deal blotter history, trader communications, order histories etc.
- Articulate and escalate areas of concern to trading and sales globally and have the depth of knowledge to effectively manage and interpret a wide variety of responses
- Be able to identify when further escalation is required and work closely with CFCC and the head of FLM when necessary, documenting all relevant data
- Maintain close communication with the BEAM, (automated monitoring) team and look to pool resources and share internal system knowledge where appropriate to achieve our goals
Our Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 10 years working experience in overall
- Excellent knowledge of Markets activities with a previous experience in First line of defence preferably in Trading or Sales role or in Surveillance role.
- Strong risk management and controls background.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to articulate complex issues concisely and communicate effectively.
- Collaborative and creative problem solver, while being outcome focused.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows and excellent attention to details.
- Comfortable working in a relatively unstructured and multi-cultural environment.
