As a Facility Lead for the Data Centre is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and management of the data centre facility. This role ensures the infrastructure, including power, cooling, security, and network connectivity, operates efficiently and reliably to support 24/7 data centre operations. The Facility Lead will work closely with technical teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to maintain uptime, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

- Facility Operations Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the data centre, ensuring all systems are functioning correctly and efficiently.
- Monitor and manage critical infrastructure components, including power distribution, cooling systems, fire suppression, and security systems.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
- Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve facility-related issues promptly, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure all systems are in optimal condition and comply with relevant regulations.
- Vendor & Contractor Management:
- Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring they deliver services in line with contractual obligations and industry standards.
- Coordinate and oversee the work of contractors during installation, maintenance, or upgrade projects.
- Review and approve contractor work plans, ensuring minimal disruption to data centre operations.
- Capacity Planning & Infrastructure Upgrades:
- Assess current and future data centre needs, including power, cooling, and space requirements.
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to plan and implement infrastructure upgrades or expansions.
- Maintain detailed records of all facility assets and infrastructure to support capacity planning and decision-making.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential threats to the data centre’s operations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications (e.g., ISO, TIA-942, Uptime Institute).
- Lead the response to emergency situations, such as power outages or system failures, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of facility technicians and engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Conduct regular training sessions to keep the team updated on best practices, safety procedures, and new technologies.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team.
Skills for Success
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in data centre facility management or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including power, cooling, and security systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards and certifications such as Uptime Institute, TIA-942, and ISO.
- Proven experience in managing vendor relationships and leading maintenance projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
