As a Manager, Data Centre & Cloud Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the infrastructure that supports a company’s data center operations. You will require a deep understanding of data center systems, including hardware, networking, cooling, power, and security, as well as leadership skills to manage teams, optimize processes, and ensure the facility’s operational efficiency.
What will you do?
Infrastructure Management:
- Oversee the management and maintenance of the physical and virtual infrastructure, including servers, storage, network devices, and power and cooling systems.
- Ensure that the data center infrastructure is secure, reliable, scalable, and meets the organization’s business and operational needs.
- Plan, implement, and upgrade infrastructure to ensure it meets performance and capacity requirements.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate with other departments, including IT, network operations, security, and facilities, to ensure smooth data center operations.
- Define and enforce operational standards and best practices for data center staff.
Capacity Planning and Optimization:
- Monitor data center performance, capacity, and usage to forecast future infrastructure needs and proactively address potential issues.
- Develop and implement strategies for optimizing the use of data center resources, including space, power, cooling, and network bandwidth.
Project Management:
- Lead the planning and execution of various infrastructure projects, including data center builds, expansions, and migrations.
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Track and report progress on key milestones, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Security and Compliance:
- Ensure the data center meets industry standards and complies with relevant security, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Implement physical security measures and work with security teams to ensure data integrity and access control.
- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans for data center operations.
Troubleshooting and Incident Management:
- Oversee troubleshooting efforts and ensure quick resolution of any infrastructure issues or outages.
- Develop and maintain incident response procedures to minimize downtime and ensure recovery objectives are met.
- Maintain root cause analysis and continuous improvement processes for infrastructure incidents.
Cost Management:
- Oversee the budget for data center infrastructure, identifying opportunities for cost reduction while ensuring system performance and reliability.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and manage relationships with service providers.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date documentation for all infrastructure components and processes.
- Generate and present reports on infrastructure health, performance metrics, and project status to senior leadership.
- Ensure accurate asset tracking and reporting for all infrastructure components.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that the data center complies with safety regulations and that all staff are trained in safety protocols.
- Ensure proper maintenance of fire suppression systems and environmental monitoring devices.
The Ideal Candidate Should Possess:
- Proven experience in managing and operating data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and power/cooling systems.
- Strong understanding of data center technologies, such as virtualization, cloud services, and high-availability architectures.
- Leadership experience with the ability to lead and mentor a technical team.
- Excellent project management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of data center operations best practices, security standards, and disaster recovery protocols.
- Experience with capacity planning, system monitoring, and optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and environmental considerations, such as ISO, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Open to providing on-call support and occasional after-hours availability when needed.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits, project implementation, or vendor meetings.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
