The Quality Assurance/Quality Engineering team within Digital is responsible for the delivery of large, high-impact initiatives, enhancements, and maintenance for branded digital assets on the web, mobile web, native apps, API and Customer Service platforms. The QA/QE manager is responsible to execute the Quality Assurance strategies, test creation and execution across the supported channels. This role will work closely with other managers and team members within Digital Quality team in leading the quality assurance efforts tied to the release planning and other quality engineering processes. The manger will collaborate with key business stakeholders, Product owners and other Channel/backend teams to understand individual business area and product priorities, working with IT, manual and automation QA to ensure quality products are delivered to our customers. This position manages testing support throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to address planned, immediate, and unexpected needs. The Manager will partner with the Senior Manager to manage test effort planning, roadmap, cross-function collaboration, and coordination across all the supported digital products.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
- Native Japanese speaker with good writing skills in Japanese language.
- Good written and oral communication in English.
- 2+ year degree from an accredited university in Computer Sciences, Software Development, or Business Administration, or equivalent experience/certification preferred.
- 4+ years’ experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Engineering for Digital, Software Development and/or IT operations, or related professional areas.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results under challenging conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity.
- Must possess critical thinking skills in addition to good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Technical aptitude and ability to learn new software solutions quickly.
- Working in a fast-paced, Agile/Scrum engineering environment delivering incremental software with high quality.
- Led and support relevant audits across product squads.
- Cloud-based testing Technology and Tooling
- Gatekeeping the standards for QA/QE
Preferred Qualifications
- SAFe Agile experience
- Proven experience in using and developing automated test capabilities.
- Automating test cases using BDD (Behavioral Driven Development)
- Automation script Development
- 1+ years of experience in ADA Accessibility Testing Experience
- Understanding of API, experience using API tools for testing
- Experience managing a team.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
Maintaining Goals
- Perform functional validations and Japanese linguistic validations across various Digital Products.
- Maintain and gatekeep the Digital QA standards across Digital channels.
- Support delivery to maximize releases through QA/QE in support of Digital revenue and room night goals.
- Maintain test cases, test suites to support quality releases across assigned digital channels.
- Consistently partner at the Quality leadership level to review roadmaps, and identify gaps, opportunities, and resource needs to support successful releases of digital products.
- Document project progress accurately and submit reports in a timely manner, ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
- Supporting a geographically dispersed team while being sensitive to all cultures and norms
Managing Work, Projects, and Policies
- Meet with QA/QE Lead and product owners to understand current priorities and work plans to ensure alignment with releases and paths to production.
- Manage to platform roadmaps, including executive roadmap depicting all items going to market across digital web (desktop and mobile), mobile apps, and APIs.
- Communicate release progress and risks as they pertain to assigned product areas.
- Communicate and negotiate with key QA/QE leads to map dependent releases to ensure alignment of other test efforts required.
- Lend support to other Channel product development efforts as needed.
Systems and Tools
- Extensive knowledge and practical use of Software Development Lifecycle management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Service Now and other QA-related tools.
- Experience in using Automation tools like Java, Selenium IDE, Selenium Web Driver, Appium, Mobile app simulators, Charles trace, Source tree, Xcode and/or other Automation frameworks and tools.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and communicating complex processes to support Digital QA/QE strategy.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Cucumber, WebGL, React, Appium, CI/CD, and AWS solutions architecture.

Managing Work, Projects, and Policies
- Perform Test Case creation, Test Executions, Manage Test Efforts, Test Planning in alignment with Digital Products releases and roadmaps.
- Meet with program teams, product owners, and business expert leads to understand current priorities and work plans to ensure alignment on QA support ultimately leading to quality releases.
- Work with Automation teams to provide KT, automation scripts review, test effort planning to ensure quality of releases.
- Manage communications regarding QA and any escalation of risks.
- Keep active communication with QA managers, team members and cross function teams to maintain Digital QA Standards and Processes.
- Lend support to other Channel product development efforts as needed.
Responsibilities
- Build, grow, and manage highly effective QE team, including coaching and mentoring team members in testing best practices and automation first mindset.
- Build product expertise, identify, and close gaps in testing, including gaps in automation test coverage.
- Leverage existing automation strategies and improve these to enable automation at scale to minimize manual testing efforts.
- Establish team metrics for measuring high quality test deliverables and operational excellence.
- Lead and Manage testing deliverables for multiple product and platform releases in a fast-paced environment.
- Be the voice of quality, drive for defect prevention, and advocate of best engineering practices.
Additional Responsibilities
- Using best practices, gatekeeping our Quality standards and best practices to ensure efficient, effective testing for initiatives, enhancements, releases, and regression testing across all our supported channels.
- Recommending improvements as necessary to our standards and best practices.
- Defining quality metrics, gathering, and analyzing the data to implement the process improvements based on analysis results.
- Upholding Marriott’s culture that is committed to quality, Championing and using test driven development and repeatable processes through QA efforts.
- Enforcement of an existing process in all required test activities throughout the SDLC
- Development & review of Integration, regression test plans to perform measures and certify the product quality.
- Communicates across teams, disciplines, and levels to maintain the flow of information during the path to production.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by manager.
- Provide timely feedback on progress, resources while performing test efforts.
- Escalate issues to the manager as they occur.
- Experience with virtualized products/services/solutions is a plus.
- Knowledge of test automation concepts such as keyword and autonomous driven framework.
