The role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the data centre, ensuring smooth execution and continuous availability of services. The operator will oversee facilities, monitor system health, manage batch jobs and backups, and coordinate with vendors and contractors. The position includes responding to incidents, providing first-level escalation, and ensuring compliance with ITIL processes and safety standards.

Responsibilities | CORE

  • Oversee building and data centre facilities and maintain operational records
  • Administer preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment readiness
  • Maintain documentation of facilities and equipment maintenance activities
  • Prepare monthly SLA reports for equipment uptime, power usage, and temperature
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in 24×7 standby duties
  • Schedule and track servicing jobs and vendor management activities
  • Act as first-level escalation point for onsite operational incidents
  • Ensure ITIL compliance in incident, problem, and change management processes
  • Implement safety, security, and customer support policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and inspect work completed by contractors and vendors
  • Monitor system alerts and backups using tools such as Nagios, SolarWinds, and NetBackup
  • Process and monitor batch jobs and backup operations as per work instructions
  • Manage tape media for onsite and offsite storage
  • Generate daily reports on server, network monitoring, and backup status
  • Perform server health checks, start-up, shutdown, and reboot tasks
  • Provide data for incident reports and liaise with users on operational matters
  • Assist in troubleshooting reported issues and enforce security access authorizations
  • Participate in disaster recovery exercises

Essential Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related discipline
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management
  • Familiarity with monitoring and backup tools (Nagios, SolarWinds, NetBackup)
  • Hands-on experience in batch job processing, server checks, and system operations

Professional and/or Technical Certifications
