The Senior Engineer, Compute Service will be responsible for the design, engineering, and operations of the on-premises private cloud platform, with a primary focus on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and Containerization and secondary expertise in VMware. The role covers end-to-end ownership of virtualization and compute services, including architecture design, integration, automation, and lifecycle management. The candidate will collaborate closely with 3rd-party operations vendors to ensure stable and efficient operations, drive process, productivity, and quality improvements, and lead the technical execution of projects through proper change management and governance.
The incumbent will act as a Level 3 subject matter expert, providing advanced support for OpenShift, VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V, and compute infrastructure. Responsibilities include troubleshooting across Linux and Windows systems, engaging with principal vendors for issue resolution, and implementing automation and monitoring enhancements to ensure high availability and resilience. The role also involves capacity planning, cost optimization, and licensing management, ensuring solutions are delivered using the most appropriate and cost-effective technologies. Proficiency in scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform), and a strong grasp of virtualization fundamentals with relevant certifications are essential for success in this role.
The candidate will also help in the process of automating the maintenance of the infrastructure through scripting. He/she will work on process and monitoring improvements to ensure that the infrastructure is always up. He/she will also take part in capacity planning exercises and participate in management reporting. He/she may also assist in Azure Cloud related OS issues.
In addition to the non-functional requirements, the solutions are delivered at optimal cost using the appropriate technology platforms. He will take part in capacity planning for the organization, including monitoring licensing and working with principle vendors for cost effective licensing and operational capacity.
Make an Impact by:
- Design, Implement and maintain the infrastructures covering on-premises Datacentres
- Design, Implement and maintain Virtualization infrastructure in covering on-premises datacentres, Openshift Virtualization, VMware, Nutanix or HyperV.
- Playing a major role in the selection of any new IT, infrastructure, or technology solution
- Works with other technology groups in resolving production issues, including security related issues
- Responsible for capacity planning of Compute infrastructure, including licensing and vendor support related engagements. Also includes obsolescence management
- Work with Change Management to propose and implement changes, especially for patching and migrations.
- Works with other groups to implement new builds
- Ensure solution proposed in compliance with security and best practices adopted by the industry
- Document and communicate Enterprise Infrastructure strategies and standards
- Ensure solution compliance and integration with enterprise architecture and Infosec policy for Infrastructure and Security systems by reviewing and advising on new and existing Information Technology projects
- Providing advice and guidance to management during planning phases to ensure that non-functional requirements are included in the overall specifications
- Providing advice and guidance to all areas of IT and Business Management, analysts, planners, designers and developers on all aspects of compute infrastructure, including build and operations policies
- To ensure that work meets all related engineering, planning, and operational standards
- Create and document the solution using the existing Infrastructure Standard Platforms and Design Patterns
- Assist in ongoing efforts to automate the operations of the infrastructure.
Skills for Success:
- Degree in computer science/ Information Technology, Industry certification, eg. Azure, VMware (VCP/VCAP) and Microsoft Windows qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience working and familiar with corporate infra design, security hygiene and best practices, compute/storage infrastructure operations and experience in putting together infrastructure runbook covering the aspects above. Able to articulate well on proposed design to stakeholder.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization and Containerization, including cluster design, deployment, lifecycle management, and automation using Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible, Terraform, scripting) to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing on-prem cloud environments.
- Experience in Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix), OS (RHEL, Windows), Compute/Storage (Dell EMC, IBM, UCS) and Hyper Converge (HCI) deployment.
- Experience in maintaining Windows Operating systems, including security hardening, patching, and automation.
- Ability to direct project design and planning activities associated with complex or large sized network infrastructure development projects.
- Experience in dealing with vendors on technology and services.
