Have you worked with Startups before? Do you have a passion for helping early startup companies grow and thrive? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an experienced and motivated technical leader to coach, grow, and partner with skilled Startups Solutions Architects across the Asia Pacific Japan region.
As the Head of Startups Solution Architecture for APJ, you will lead teams of skilled Solutions Architects who partner with early-stage to growth-stage startups across the APJ region. You will be hands-on, working directly with customers on significantly complex technical challenges while coaching your teams to elevate their impact. You should bring proven strategic thinking, deep technical expertise, and demonstrated ability to influence across organizations.
You will need to be technically capable and credible in your own right—able to architect solutions to significantly complex problems, decompose technical complexity into straightforward solutions, and serve as a trusted advisor to startup founders and CTOs. Simultaneously, you must be effective in developing the customer-facing and technical skills of your experienced team members across multiple countries and time zones.
In addition to technical depth, you should have a solid understanding of the startup journey—the unique challenges startups face and how technology can empower their businesses. You will work directly with a variety of startups, helping them make the best technical decisions as they scale, while building your team’s capability to do the same.
Key job responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership
– Lead critical customer engagements including cloud adoption and migration programs, and complex technical challenges with high-stakes outcomes
– Serve as a trusted technical advisor to startup founders and senior business and technical leaders, operating at a strategic level and creating opportunities for your team to act as trusted advisors
– Apply deep technical understanding across multiple domains to invent, evolve, and simplify solutions that drive customer success
Team Leadership & Development
– Coach and develop experienced Solutions Architects to elevate their technical capabilities and strategic advisory abilities
– Build a high-performing team through effective hiring, onboarding, and continuous skill development
– Foster a culture of technical excellence and customer obsession
– Maintain a high bar for operational excellence; define and maintain appropriate cadences for inspecting the business in your area
Strategic Impact & Collaboration
– Champion your area’s customer needs with senior leaders within AWS
– Bridge customer needs with AWS product teams, ensuring customer feedback drives product improvements
– Partner with senior leaders within AWS sales, investor management, specialist, and engineering teams to deliver comprehensive solutions and clear obstacles to customer success

Basic Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
– Experience leading and growing teams of senior technology professionals, ideally in customer facing roles
– 2+ years of architecting/operating solutions built on any cloud service provider like Azure, AWS, GCP, OCI, etc. experience
– 8+ years of technology solutions development and evangelising end-to-end technology roadmaps that guide IT transformations toward cloud computing experience
– 10+ years of experience architecting, building, or operating cloud-based applications or infrastructures
– 5+ years of experience managing complex organizations: either multi-layered or cross-functional or geographically distributed (ideally at least two out of three)
Preferred Qualifications
– Experience architecting, migrating, transforming or modernizing customer requirements to the cloud
– Experience in written and oral communication, including the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization (technical, business, executive)
– Experience in the startup community as either a founder, mentor, investor, or early technical employee
– Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort speaking with startup business and technology leaders, developer community, and press
– Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
