Job Summary

  • Primary responsibility for assignment of standard Loan to Values (LTV) across all WRB wealth products (bonds, equities, structured products, managed investments and derivatives). Assign non-standard LTVs after suitable risk assessment and provide input to country Wealth Lending risk teams for assignment of client specific LTVs   
  • Actively monitor the Wealth Lending portfolio performance across segments and booking locations and propose actions to relevant stakeholders and committees as necessary.
  • Assess and opine on complex structured Wealth lending transactions in Retail and Private Banking segments.
  • Appraise and contribute to the development of CMPS business/product review through active participation in proceedings relevant working groups.
  • Responsibility to uphold the integrity of Wealth Lending (PvB &PrB) risk/return decisions, and in particular for ensuring that risks are properly assessed (including product approvals and LTV assessment) and are controlled in accordance with the Group’s standards and its Risk Appetite
  • To ensure the Risk Management Framework is effectively communicated and implemented across Wealth Lending (PvB & PrB) and for administering related governance and reporting processes related to Capital Markets Products & Solutions (CMPS) products.
  • Risk representative for credit related operational risk processes and related systems enhancement in WML. Challenge the completeness of risk control activities across Operational Risk Control Areas and identify and address any significant gaps that may exist between them
  • Partner with the business on strategic initiatives in Wealth Management, Wealth Lending and Private Banking

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure oversight over processes in place in WML to maintain adherence to the LTV policy 
  • Ensure that material risk exposures and related issues are reported to the responsible governance committees.
  • Continuously improve the operational efficiency and effectiveness of risk management processes
  • Uphold and reinforce the independence of the Risk function from those whose primary responsibility is to maximize short-term revenues and profits
  • Coach and mentor team members
  • Conduct training sessions for Relationship Managers related to LTV methodology, systems and processes.
  • Assist the Head, CRM Wealth Lending Risk & PMG, WRB  in implementing the overall Risk Management Framework for Wealth Management
  • Maintain a good understanding of the requirements of key external stakeholders in respect of risk management and ensure these are well understood internally and reflected in internal procedures
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group’s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code

Our Ideal Candidate

  • 10 + years of substantial experience in the financial services industry with understanding of the dynamics of financial markets across asset classes, price movements and volatility assessment.
  • Direct experience in Private Banking credit risk management / Lombard lending LTV assignment considered a strong advantage.
  • Strong understanding of credit related processes and operational risk management
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work successfully with multi-cultural teams in diverse locations.
  • Analytical mindset and ability to work independently. 
  • CFA/FRM certification will be considered an advantage.
